Cinema: nearly 38 million spectators in the rooms in 2011

The year 2011 marked a new record of frequentation of the cinemas with 67,5% of the population which entered at least once a dark room, all confused categories. In its annual study 75 000 published Tuesday, the Médiamétrie institute raises that with 37,9 million spectators (354 000 of more than in 2010), the cinema reached its best level since 1984, in particular French films.

Four national productions appear among preferred films of the public. In number 1 comes Untouchable from Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache (more than 19 million entries), The Lady of Luc Besson arrives third, The Artist of Michel Hazanavicius is fifth in front of Polishes of Maïwenn (6th). 2nd and 4th positions return respectively to Iranian film a Separation and to Rio, cartoon film in 3D.

A public mainly female for French films

According to Médiamétrie, they are the women, especially, who made the success of the hexagonal films, of which they accounted for 54% of the public (against 52,4% for the whole of films).
